Loren and I went out of town this past weekend and had such a great surprise when we got back! My dad snuck into our house to build the mantel! And even better, my step mom Denise took step by step photos because she knew I would want to blog it :) Aren't they the best!?
Here they are!
Quite the setup don't you think?
We added an outlet to the inside of our bookshelves so that we could hide cords. The mantel then needed to be hollow so that we could run the cords from the TV to the cable/outlets.
And this is what we walked into! My dad even added some decorative balls to spruce it up :) He is just really great.
We are still debating whether to paint the mantel white or stain it dark. I'm leaning towards staining. We're now on the search for the most perfect corbels and then it will be complete! (Corbel= that chunky piece of wood you see under the mantel that supports it/looks pretty). With that, the living room is juuuuuuuuuust about done. Alls she needs is a some paint in various places, a little rearrange of bookshelf goodies and new front blinds! Stay tuned :)
(I had to include this photo because I was SO excited to get the TV off the floor where it's been for the last few months! A reading chair is a must in every home.)
On the way home from our little weekend adventure to KC we decided to stop at just about every antique mall we passed! We got lots of goodies but our best finds: glass jewelry boxes for my watch obsession, an old fan for the bookshelves (that still works!) and large milk glass salt and pepper shakers (we've been on the hunt for those!)
Told you! Best. Dad. Ever.
