Take OUT the IN(sert).

Our house was livable from day one. All the huge scary things in old homes were actually updated by the old owners and she had good bones. When we told people about our house and all the work we were doing we made it sound like the thing was going to fall over. It wasn't. Most things people could probably live with. But the bathroom? Having carpet in the bathroom is like wearing someone else's socks. I say everything is the first thing we did (because everything was, we went to town) BUT this was definitely one of the very first things we tackled.

What we had? A vanity that pretty much crumbled when we touched it, brown carpet that DID crumple when we touched it, a gold shower insert (one door being a mirror), and some tile in random places. Here. we. go.

And then. We had our first setback. I seriously felt like we were on HGTV where they tell the owners the bad news and they have to decide right then and there if they will put a bandaid over something or up their budget. For us it was finding out that the galvanized pipes needed to be updated to copper from the bathroom down to the main level. Of course I was thinking of all the fun things I would much rather spend the money on and was dead set on saying no thanks until Loren told me that old pipes meant no water pressure. He knew that would get me. Washing shampoo out of my hair for 30 minutes was not happening. So here are our sparkling new pipes (exciting huh?)

We changed the hot and cold knobs into one, raised the shower head a few feet and upped the water pressure. Our first big surprise with reno and we made it through! Phew, we could continue! Dura rock went up followed by a sealer and then... my subway tile :) Subway tile was a must.

What I learned: bragging about how great you are at grouting will get you signed up for grouting the floor later on, having a dad do the hard part is a must and you have to be ready to shower anywhere but your own house. This was not a quick project!

I can finally say that the bathroom is juuuustt about done! New flooring (that was another doozy), new vanity, new blinds, new lighting (after returning two others), new hardware and new trim. Add built in shelves, fresh paint, some new bathroom goodies and we are happy :)

Plenty of step by steps for all of those but for now so I don't leave you hanging, a little peek from a few weeks ago!
