When we first walked through our home I opened a kitchen drawer and immediately closed it, deciding that this house just wasn't going to work for us. The wallpaper, moldy and crumbling in corners did it for me. I knew we wouldn't want to ditch the original cabinets but I just wasn't sure that I could ever put our dishes in them. Loren told me I was being crazy (I wasn't) so I put the thought in the back of my mind until after we closed. Then I panicked. Once again, I'm sorry to say it because I am sure the old owners truly loved their drawers but I just couldn't. After much research I figured out we could possssssibly save them. We needed to peel the wallpaper, scrap the leftover paint, kill the smell (I know ugh) and repaint them white.
This ended up not being a "we" project. Guess who got signed up for it?
They were multiplying. I didn't realize it. was. everywhere. (Look at the pre-finished floors!)
This paint was much needed to kill that moldy, musty smell. It is definitely one to do outside though.
I thought I had just had the six drawers to do but 3 hours in and 4 drawers down a thought hit me. It is probably in the lower cabinets. Opened the doors and yep!! It was!
I can't even pretend that this project was fun. It wasn't, it sucked. BUT I feel great about putting the dishes away! So clean :)
What I learned: the old homeowners loved pastels (green and yellow to be exact), that musty smell really can go away and original cabinets are always better than new.
