Board and Batten :)

Each and every house we looked at my hopes were high for the perfect dining room for my little project. It was one of those things on the wish list where I definitely wasn't going to tell our realtor I needed but secretly... I needed. Our dining room was perfect for this and I could not WAIT to get started. "Board and what??" Loren must have said this at least 18 times before we started.

Biggest thing we learned while doing this it does not/will not be perfect. Figure out how tall you want the top board to be depending on your table height. Then figure out how much space you want between them. We changed measurements over and over again as we were dodging outlets and window sills. And patience? Yeah you have to have that. All in all this ended up being one of our favorite projects! 

Supplies? Wood. Lots of wood. We have the exact measurements and what not somewhere but I'm on a roll so they will have to be left out. So... wood, nail gun (the big boy not a dinky nail gun), wood filler, white paint, miter saw, painters tape, tape measurer and lots and lots of paintable caulk (we quickly realized this was our best friend throughout the entire house- I don't know how I didn't know this existed?)

First up. Prep the wall and paint the top half. Oh and paint the never ending trim!

The spacing of the wood starts as a complete guessing game.

But pretty soon, we had a system going and we were on a roll. 

See these? We wanted the vents to look more original so they got a fresh coat of oil rubbed bronze spray paint (I get distracted easily).

Loren has gotten suuuuper handy since the start of the house so a quick mention of a planter and he whipped this bad boy up (with my wedding mason jars of course).

FINISHED PROJECT? 

Finally found a home for the chandelier I fixed up a year ago! 

What I learned: measure and then measure again (old walls are never the same height), you CAN make too many trips to Lowes and paintable caulk fixes anything, annnnnnything.
